Syrian Families Start Evacuation from Al-Hol Camp
Before reuniting with their relatives, the evacuees underwent health screenings, received medical aid, and completed registration at Faiha Stadium in al-Bab city. Muhammad Kenco, a Stability Support Unit official, told a news agency that this marks the first evacuation effort coordinated by the new administration from Al-Hol to northwest Syria.
Although previous evacuations occurred, this marks the first coordinated relocation to Aleppo, Kenco explained, expressing optimism about more such efforts to come. He described a convoy transporting the families’ belongings via 30 trucks, with four buses carrying the evacuees themselves, supported by five ambulances ready to handle any medical emergencies.
Kenco emphasized that the Support Unit provides care tailored to children, women, and men, ensuring health teams are on hand to meet their needs. He added that those evacuated will be relocated to new settlements aimed at fostering social integration.
About Al-Hol Camp
Established in 2003 in Hasakah province, eastern Syria, Al-Hol Camp is under the control of the PKK/YPG terrorist organization. It shelters civilians fleeing conflicts with ISIS (Daesh), as well as surrendered members of terror groups and their families.
International bodies, including the UN, have voiced deep concerns about the camp’s deteriorating security situation, persistent violence, exploitation of women and girls, and harsh living conditions. The PKK/YPG has faced criticism for its minimal intervention, which has allowed these issues to worsen under their watch.
Thousands of unaffiliated families and unrepentant ISIS members remain detained in the camp, sparking fears over its ongoing purpose. Reports indicate that the PKK/YPG uses ISIS detainees as bargaining chips in diplomatic negotiations with the US and European nations to justify its hold on the area.
With the Assad regime’s collapse, renewed efforts are underway to restore Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, putting the spotlight on Al-Hol Camp’s future status and the need for resolution.
