US Sends Refueling Planes to Back Israel

(MENAFN) The United States has positioned over 30 aerial refueling aircraft in the Middle East over the past several days, according to media accounts on Tuesday that referenced comments from two American officials.

These tankers are likely intended to aid Israeli aerial campaigns as part of its current confrontation with Iran.

As reported by a news agency, the refueling planes may help broaden the operational range and duration of Israeli fighter jets engaging in missions over Iranian territory.

“Without this ability, Israel’s warplanes have a limited time they can linger over Iran,” noted the news agency’s correspondent.

Reports indicate that Israel deployed around 200 warplanes during the first wave of air assaults aimed at Iranian positions.

While Israel does operate its own fleet of aerial tankers, officials stated that they are not adequate to maintain such a high number of jets operating at long distances.

The capacity to remain airborne for extended periods is deemed vital, particularly for tracking down and striking mobile ballistic missile systems, which can frequently relocate and conceal themselves between firings.

Staying in the air longer enables Israeli aircraft to locate and eliminate these missile threats more effectively.

In addition to backing Israeli missions, the refueling planes might also be utilized to assist US Air Force bombers, such as the B-2 and B-52, in the event that President Donald Trump decides to launch an attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Speculation has emerged that Trump is weighing involvement in the conflict.
