Sheinbaum Assures Nationwide Coordination Following ‘El Mencho’ Death
In a message posted on the platform owned by US-based tech company X, Sheinbaum emphasized close cooperation between federal and local authorities. "There is absolute coordination with the governments of all states; we must remain informed and calm," Sheinbaum said on the US social media company X’s platform, adding that “activities are proceeding normally throughout most of the country.”
She recognized that the security operation had prompted disturbances in certain areas. According to official accounts, the Defense Ministry detailed the "various blockades and other reactions" that followed the operation by federal forces.
Reaffirming her administration’s priorities, the president stated, "We work every day for peace, security, justice, and the well-being of Mexico," she said.
Authorities explained that the mission was carried out by Special Forces in Tapalpa, located in the western state of Jalisco, an area long regarded as a stronghold of the CJNG. The objective was to capture Oseguera.
Providing further details, the ministry said, "During this operation, Mexican military personnel were attacked, and in defense of their physical integrity, they repelled the aggression. This resulted in four members of the 'CJNG' criminal group dying at the scene and three others being severely wounded, who lost their lives during their airlift to Mexico City," the ministry said.
It also clarified the identity of one of those killed, stating, "Among the latter is Ruben "N" (alias Mencho); however, the corresponding authorities will be in charge of the forensic activities to confirm his identification."
Officials added that security forces detained two additional suspected cartel members. They also confiscated a number of armored vehicles and an arsenal of weapons, including rocket launchers capable of targeting aircraft.
The reported death of "El Mencho" triggered a surge of violence across multiple regions, as authorities recorded highway blockades, torched vehicles, and armed confrontations in several states.
